Two individuals have been apprehended by law enforcement on suspicion of desecrating the corpse of a 36-year-old woman following her murder in her residence in Sene Bokankye, located in the Ashanti Region.
The accused, identified as Kelvin Gyamfi and Samuel Addai, purportedly perpetrated the heinous act subsequent to breaking into the deceased’s home with intentions of theft.
The victim was asleep when the pair illicitly entered her room within an unfinished building, where they struck her head with a cement block on two occasions.
Upon realizing her demise, they proceeded to sexually assault her before absconding with her mobile phone and a sum of GHs42.00.
This appalling incident allegedly unfolded on February 8, 2024. The discovery of the victim, unclothed and in a pool of blood, was made by neighbors after her son, returning from school, raised an alarm.
An examination conducted by law enforcement revealed significant injuries to her head, including a fractured skull and bleeding from the ear and nostrils. Seminal fluid was also detected in the vicinity of her genitals.
The deceased’s remains were transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for forensic examination and preservation, which disclosed severe head trauma, indicative of blunt force trauma, along with evidence suggesting sexual assault.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to visiting the victim’s residence to consume drugs before proceeding to steal from her.
Detective Inspector Abdul-Wahab Yusif Seoune of the Abuakwa Police spearheaded the investigation, which led to the recovery of the stolen phone and SIM card, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the two individuals.
On March 17, 2024, Samuel Addai was apprehended in Atwima Bokankye, while his accomplice initially evaded capture but was later arrested in Medie-Accra two days subsequent.
The duo was brought before the Akropong District Magistrate Court, where they were provisionally charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, with plans for a DNA analysis on samples retrieved from the victim’s sexual organs.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court again on April 4, 2024.
