Tiwa Savage Drops Soundtrack Album for Her First Film ‘Water & Garri’

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has made a significant debut in the world of cinema with her first film, “Water and Garri,” now available on Amazon Prime Video as of May 10.

In conjunction with the film’s release, Tiwa Savage has also dropped a soundtrack album through EMPIRE, featuring ten original tracks. The album boasts collaborations with renowned artists, including Grammy-nominated talents such as Olamide and Ayra Starr. Additionally, it features contributions from Nigerian singer-songwriter ASA, Cameroonian multi-instrumentalist Richard Bona, gospel artist Zacardi Cortez, and emerging talents like Black Sherif, Young Jonn, Mystro Sugar, and The Cavemen.

Tiwa Savage shares her excitement about the project, expressing how it allowed her to explore different musical styles beyond what her fans might expect. She emphasizes her dedication to incorporating African culture into her work, whether through fashion or music, as she finds it inherently beautiful.

In “Water & Garri,” Tiwa Savage not only stars as the lead character, Aisha, but also serves as its Executive Producer. The film follows Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer returning to her hometown after a decade abroad in the United States. As she navigates through changed landscapes and reconnects with her past, she confronts personal demons and societal challenges.

Shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, the film is directed by Meji Alabi, known for his captivating cinematography and storytelling prowess. The cast includes Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde.

This milestone in Tiwa Savage’s career comes on the heels of her celebrated 10th anniversary since the release of her debut album, “Once Upon A Time.” With subsequent albums like “R.E.D” (2015), “Sugarcane” (2017), and “Celia” (2020), along with the “Water & Garri” EP (2021), Tiwa Savage has solidified her status as one of Africa’s most influential musical talents, amassing over a billion streams across all platforms.
