The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to accept candidate nominations for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections from September 9 to 13, marking a pivotal moment in the lead-up to the peak of the political season.

Following this, the presidential ballot casting will take place on September 23, 2024, with the parliamentary ballot following on September 24, 2024.

In addition, the EC aims to announce the results of the 2024 presidential election within three days of the voting process, provided that all goes according to plan.

As outlined in the exclusive program of activities obtained by the Daily Graphic, the EC will conduct a voter registration drive from May 7 to May 27, 2024, and will then carry out a nationwide initiative to replace lost voter ID cards starting from May 30, 2024.

Preceding the registration drive will be 56 days of public education on the process, running from April 1 to May 26, 2024.

According to the schedule provided to the Daily Graphic, the provisional voters’ register will be shared with political parties between July 9 and 18, 2024, followed by an exhibition of the register from July 15 to 24, 2024.

The final voter register is expected to be handed over to political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.

Furthermore, the EC plans to hold meetings with stakeholders outside the realm of political parties as per the schedule, along with engaging the public through its “Let The Citizen Know” series.

Insiders at the EC revealed to the Daily Graphic that the Special Voting for selected professionals is scheduled for December 2, five days prior to the main election day on December 7, 2024. This will be accessible to security agencies and accredited media practitioners on duty during the election.

However, it’s worth noting that all dates are subject to potential revisions, according to sources within the EC.

Although there’s no legal requirement for the EC to declare results within a specified timeframe, it aims to ensure that presidential results are announced within a maximum of three days after the polls close.

Regional Collation Centres will be maintained to announce results at the regional level, as indicated by sources within the EC.
