Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa’s attempt at a sing-a-thon has been disqualified by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
In response to an inquiry about her attempt, GWR tweeted, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”
Additionally, GWR mentioned that the evidence check had already commenced before Afua requested priority service, resulting in the refund of her earlier payment.
“We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” GWR tweeted on February 23.
Earlier this month, Afua Asantewaa revealed that she paid $750 to expedite the priority review process with Guinness World Records.
During an interview, Afua explained that the standard review process with GWR takes up to twelve weeks. However, by paying, one can expedite the process to five days.
“After two weeks of attempting the record, we decided to expedite the review process, which required payment of the said amount,” she stated.
Afua Asantewaa completed her singing marathon, lasting 126 hours and 52 minutes, on December 29, 2023, aiming to break the current record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012.
Afua submitted evidence of her singing attempt to Guinness World Records on January 6, 2024.
Last month, Guinness World Records responded to Afua Asantewaa’s attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
GWR’s response followed after a TikTok user, cute_gyebuaxx, tagged Guinness World Records in a post inquiring about Afua’s singing marathon.
In response, the World Records replied, “We’ve been reviewing Afua’s evidence and will be letting her know the results soon.”
