Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has shed light on his involvement in the ongoing rap feud between Ghana’s Sarkodie and Nigeria’s Dremo.

In early May, Sarkodie released his song “Brag” as part of his “The Championship Mixtape” project. In the track, Sarkodie declared himself unparalleled in Africa, likening his prowess to that of Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole. He also asserted his dominance over Nigerian artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, claiming his supremacy in the industry before their rise to fame.

Dremo, an associate of Davido, was provoked by Sarkodie’s bold claims and responded with his own diss track. However, Sarkodie dismissed Dremo’s retort, only acknowledging his potential. This is where Lyrical Joe stepped in, delivering a powerful response to Dremo with his track “1960,” a reference to Nigeria’s year of independence, which impressed many Ghanaians with its lyrical prowess.

In a recent interview, Lyrical Joe clarified his reasons for not releasing another response to Dremo, dispelling rumors that he had been asked to ceasefire.

“No one contacted me to ceasefire. I would say it had more to do with the fanbase on and off social media. The joy they had for this whole thing. He [Sarkodie] is a rapper who can stand his own ground. I only came in because it had to do with the rap dialogue in Ghana,” he explained to 3Xtra’s King Kwaku Mensa.

Lyrical Joe also praised Sarkodie for his significant contributions to the Ghanaian rap scene.

“He’s one of the people who is waking up the rap game as well. I stepped in to represent the entire genre, not because I’m fighting Sarkodie’s fight. He can fight his own battles,” he added.
