Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to leave the club at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season. Mbappe’s contract with PSG is set to expire in the summer, allowing him to engage in pre-contract negotiations with other clubs since the start of January.
As discussions unfold, the specifics of Mbappe’s departure remain under negotiation, with both parties deliberating on whether the player will depart for a transfer fee or opt to forego his own financial interests to safeguard PSG’s financial stability. An official announcement from PSG and Mbappe is expected once these details are ironed out in the coming months.
The 25-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, although reports suggest that Mbappe may need to accept a reduction in salary to secure a transfer to the Spanish club. Notably, last summer, PSG received a record-breaking bid of £259 million from Al Hilal for Mbappe, granting the player permission to enter discussions with the Saudi Arabian club.
Despite this opportunity, Mbappe reportedly declined to engage in negotiations with Al Hilal representatives during their visit to Paris. Consequently, he was temporarily excluded from training with PSG’s first-team squad amid a contractual disagreement. However, following what were described as “positive and constructive talks,” the World Cup-winning forward was reintegrated into the team in August last year.
