In a distressing turn of events, Lydia Wiafe, a 41-year-old hairdresser hailing from Ejisu Apromase in the Ashanti Region, finds herself caught in the crossfire of a viral scandal involving images of her donned in military attire. This unforeseen situation has left her grappling with fear and anxiety, disrupting not only her personal life but also threatening her livelihood.
Lydia Wiafe vehemently refutes any association with the military, adamantly asserting that she has never been a part of the Ghana Armed Forces. The images in question, widely circulated on social media, have not only triggered outrage but have also drawn attention to her alleged affiliation with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, Lydia expressed the profound psychological impact of the incident, emphasizing the toll it has taken on her ability to work and earn a living. She has appealed to both the military and the police to intervene and identify the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the misleading images.
“I suspect it was during one of our political rallies and events that this person took pictures of me and circulated them. A lot of people, including relatives, have been calling me, and I am not able to work to even earn a living due to this despicable act,” she lamented.
Lydia Wiafe is now living in fear, concerned about potential mistaken attacks and the repercussions of being falsely associated with the military. She called for justice, urging the military hierarchy to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the responsible individuals to account.
“The person behind this despicable act has dragged the name of the Ghana Armed Forces into the mud. I will appeal to the hierarchy of the military to ensure this person is brought to justice,” Lydia urged, adding, “I have been inundated with phone calls, and I believe that when this person is found and punished, there will be finality to this matter so my name can rest too. I am comfortable living and working in this community. My children are also worried about this issue.”
Support for Lydia’s innocence comes from her neighbors in Ejisu Apromase, who attested to her profession as a hairdresser and categorically denied her involvement in military service. One resident emphasized, “She cannot be enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces, and she is not a military officer. She has been a hairdresser since. She does not have the required educational background to even be enlisted in the military.”
The community members are urging the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces to launch a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that those responsible for circulating the misleading pictures face legal consequences. They emphasize Lydia’s lack of qualifications for military service, highlighting her highest education as Form 4. The complexity of the issue underscores the need for a comprehensive inquiry to bring justice to Lydia Wiafe and clear her name from this damaging controversy.
