Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has indicated his intention to visit various ports across the country soon in a bid to eliminate corrupt activities. This decision follows numerous reports highlighting corrupt practices among some port officials.
Dr. Amin Adam personally acknowledged instances of corruption and expressed his determination to combat this issue. Addressing the Commissioner-General, he acknowledged the prevailing high perception of corruption in the ports, affecting trade and entry processes. He stressed the need to address the reported revenue losses attributed to the actions of clearing agents, shipping companies, and customs officials.
“I personally intend to visit the ports, together with some of your officers, to engage and assess for myself some of the issues at first-hand,” he announced. Dr. Amin Adam emphasized the negative impact of corruption on revenue generation in Ghana, leading to delays in critical projects.
The Finance Minister called upon the Ghana Revenue Authority to collaborate with other key sectors of the economy to enhance revenue collection. He urged the authority to instill discipline and minimize revenue leakages caused by misdescriptions, misclassification, and over or under-invoicing.
“We need you to continue to instill discipline and minimise revenue leakages through misdescriptions, misclassification, over and under-invoicing. I assure you and your team of my strong support,” he assured.
Highlighting the commitment to serving the country and prioritizing revenue increase, Dr. Amin Adam encouraged open communication. He reassured the Ghana Revenue Authority of his full support and readiness to address any issues related to revenue generation.
