Public sector workers‘ salaries have been increased by 23% following the finalization of negotiations on the 2024 base pay.

The rollout of the 23% salary adjustment commenced on January 1, 2024.

This adjustment, set at 23%, will be uniformly applied from January 2024 until June 2024, with a subsequent increase to 25% from July 2024 to December 2024.

The decision comes following the conclusion of negotiations for the 2024 Single Spine Salary Structure Base Pay between the government and Organised Labour in November of the previous year.

According to Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the government has sanctioned the disbursement of the 23% adjustment.

Kwaning-Bosompem reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to adequately compensating public sector employees, stressing that salaries have been distributed punctually and in line with stipulated payment schedules.

He remarked, “The government remains steadfast in safeguarding the welfare of workers and has consistently fulfilled salary obligations, even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Unlike in other countries where salary cuts and layoffs were prevalent during the pandemic, Ghana ensured that workers received their salaries.”

Kwaning-Bosompem further underscored the government’s efforts and urged public sector employees to contribute to economic stabilization.

He highlighted positive indicators of economic recovery and emphasized the collective responsibility in maintaining fiscal stability and ensuring macroeconomic equilibrium.
