Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Roma with the club ninth in Serie A

After securing only one victory in their last six Serie A matches, the Giallorossi faced another setback in the Coppa Italia, being ousted by city rivals Lazio. The defeat was further marred by the dismissal of coach Mourinho during the match.

At the age of 60, Mourinho commenced his tenure with Roma in 2021, dedicating two and a half years to the role. During his tenure, he steered the team to victory in the Europa Conference League in 2022 and successfully guided them to the Europa League final last season, although they faced a penalty shootout defeat against Sevilla. Mourinho’s contract, originally set to conclude in June, comes to an end with the recent developments.

Mourinho was in his third season at Roma and his contract was due to expire in June.

“In an official club statement, AS Roma expressed gratitude to Jose Mourinho, acknowledging his passion and contributions since joining the club. While recognizing the positive memories created during his tenure, the decision for an immediate change has been made in the best interests of the club.”

“We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
